North Carolina Genealogy Relaunch
North Carolina Genealogy is relaunching on a modern platform—same mission, cleaner foundation, and room to deepen every county guide.
Why we rebuilt
The original WordPress site served researchers for many years with county pages, articles, and community forums. Over time, aging plugins, theme code, and security risk made it unsustainable. Rather than lose the work, we exported the valuable content into a custom application designed for genealogy research hubs.
What carried over
- All 100 county pages — history notes and research starting points from the original site
- Articles — historical posts and site notes, still browsable and searchable
- Forum archive — read-only preservation of community queries
- Core resources — links to archives, libraries, and major research portals
What’s new
- Modern design and faster, simpler pages
- Research method guides (census, land, probate, vitals, military, DNA, and more)
- Priority-county depth topics (Wake, Mecklenburg, Buncombe, Guilford, and others)
- On-this-day history notes and a genealogist-focused timeline
- Sister-site links to South Carolina Genealogy
What we’re still building
County depth is uneven—some pages are strong historical sketches; others need the full “research hub” treatment (record matrix, towns, societies, and topic essays). That work continues county by county, starting with high-traffic areas and burned-record problem spots.
