Using the County Record Matrix on This Site
Each county page includes a record availability matrix—a quick view of what kinds of sources tend to exist and how dense they are. Treat it as a planning tool, not a catalog of every file.
- Excellent / good — prioritize these record types early.
- Partial / sparse — plan substitutes (neighbors, churches, newspapers).
- Year ranges — if your event is outside the range, change jurisdiction or source class.
Combine the matrix with census, land, and probate method guides. Then open towns for community-level churches and cemeteries.
