Carolyn, I do not know anything about your Joseph Hicks but was interested as I have both surnames in my lines. My ggg grandparents were Abner Goodson and Louisa Hicks. They moved around from Lincoln to Buncomb to Catawba to Cherokee counties. I also have an Andrew Ray probably from SC whose daughter Mary Jane Ray married my gg gf Nathaniel Thorn in 1834, again probably in SC.
