Many North Carolina births never produced a modern certificate. Build a substitute stack:

• Bible records and family papers
• Church baptisms and membership lists
• Census ages correlated carefully (not as exact proof alone)
• Delayed birth registrations when they exist
• Obituaries and cemetery markers for death-side clues to birthplaces
